Upgrading XP Home SP2 to XP Pro (without SP's)

I am running into a problem while trying to upgrade a few laptops from XP
Home to XP Pro. When I pop the disc in, and select the Upgrade option, it
returns an error stating that the OS version I already have loaded is newer
than the one I am trying to load. My thought it that is it basing that
statement on the SP level that is currently on the Home version (SP2) against
the Professional disc I am trying to upgrade from, which has no SP on it.

How can I get past this so that I am able to upgrade the laptops with XP
Home SP1 (or 2) to XP Professional? After I am done with the initial
upgrade, I plan on adding SP2 to them, but can't do that until I get the Pro
package on in the first place. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

It appears your version of Windows XP Pro
does not include SP2. To resolve this issue,
you can easily make a new Windows XP Pro
CD with SP2 slipstreamed in, then upgrade.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

or

AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

Yes, the reason you are having problems is that the Home boxen are SP2
and the Pro cd isn't. This is very simply solved by creating a Pro
install with SP2 slipstreamed into it. I like AutoStreamer, but there
are lots of other methods:

Thank you very much for the hint. I am using AutoStreamer to accomplish
this. Many thanks...

Hi all,
I've read this thread with great interest and tried it.

I have a similar problem to DQ's:
- My pc came with WinXP Home SP2 in October 2004. Until now, that has not
been a problem.
- I purchased a WinXP Pro upgrade for another (currently scrapped) pc in 2003.
- Now I need to replace the WinXP Home on my newest machine with Pro, and do
not want to nor have the funds to purchase a new upgrade.

I downloaded the SP2 service pack and slipstreamed it into my original
upgrade installer cd. However, when I try to upgrade, i still get the error
saying that the installed OS is newer than the one I want to upgrade to.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks/

Chavo
