Private Files

My hard drive failed to boot up and will not not allow me
even to use safe mode. I cannot fix it with chkdsk at the
recovery conole. I know I will have to reinstall windows
but this will lose my work. I have put the drive into
another PC as a slave to see if I can save my work. There
were a number of windows users and most I am able to copy
their work accross. However I cannot get to the files of
two users who clicked on make private for their files. Is
there anyway I can get to these files?
Although I can see the files on the disk as a slave. If I
put it back as a master it will fail to boot. This
happened before and I ran defrag on the slave drive and
this lost everything.
