XP Home recover files

My brother's XP Home PC's hard drive is heading south pretty quickly and will
no longer boot the PC. If I put the hard drive in a different PC as the
slave, I can recover most of the files, except for his directory which is
password protected. There is a whole raft of photos he'd like to get back,
but I only get "Access is denied" when trying to open his directory. In the
Recovery Console I can get in and see the files, and I suppose if I had
unlimited time I could copy them all to the root, but I'm hoping there's an
easier way. This hard drive will not boot into safe mode either

Try taking ownership of the files while it is slaved to your working XP
install.

Don't write to the HD until data's recovered. Windows will ALWAYS
write to the HD automatically, so is unsafe for use in this situation,
though you can make it less of a bloodbath by disabling SR on the HD.
