Prioritize appointments/events on the calendar?

Is there a way to prioritize in what order appointments or events show up on
the monthly calendar view? I would like a particular category to always be
the top item. Also, just a curiousity [ok, a silly question] - What is the
difference between an appointment and an event? Thanks for any help..

appointment has a start and end time and last less than 24 hours. Events are
24 or more hours long.

You can assign categories and create a view that only shows that event but
you can't order items based on the category.
