I have a laptop with Vista Home Basic pre-installed. When I try to print it
places the print job in a queue. It then says drivers not installed starts
the installation process again but still will not print. I have reinstalled
the printer to no avail. It is a lexmark X1270 but I had the same problems
with a HP.

Any suggestions?

Just an idea:

Do you have the CD-ROM for the printer? 'Cause if so, you might right-click
on the setup.exe, select "Run as administrator" and go from there.

Have you checked Lexmarks website for updated drivers for the X1270 that
might improve stability and compatibility under Windows Vista? You could
also try uninstalling the printer driver, disconnect the printer, reinstall
the driver from the CD, restart the system then attach the printer again.

Did you use the CD-ROM that came with the printer to install the drivers?

If so, bad idea. Most CDs that come with any hardware are horribly
outdated.

Go to Lexmark's web site and download the latest drivers, hopefully they are
now properly Vista compatible and should fix the problem.

If you already did this, I'd contact Lexmark and basically say to them,
"WTF?"
