Printing to DEC LA310

I am trying to print from XP Pro to a wide carriage , dot matrix, fan fold
printer.
The printer is a Digital Equipment Corp(DEC) LA310 printer.
The driver for the LA310 is standard in XP written by Microsoft.
I use the add printer wizard to add the LA310 on port COM1 as it is a serial
printer.
The printer self test shows the comm port settings required
(9600,8,none,1,xon/xoff) and com1 is correctly configured.
The LA310 shows as an installed status=ready printer in control
panel/printers & faxes.
When I try to print a test page or a notepad text file, I get NOTHING.
The printer does not budge !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am using a DB9(female) to DB25(female) serial cable.

Can anyone out there help?
Thanks much.

Never had one of those beasts, But how about installing it as a generic
text printer and see if you may get some response out of it.

Bob,
Thanks your reply.
What would you suggest as a generic serial text printer?

Try a null-modem cable!

In a straight-thru cable, such as you have, the Data-OUT pin from your
computer connects to the Data-OUT pin of the printer! A null-modem cable
reverses Data-IN and Data-OUT.

Some serial devices, such as modems, do the switch internally. Others depend
on input data appearing on the Data-IN pin.

Like you, I am begining to suspect cabling problem.
Waiting for an adaptor & crossover cable to arrive.
When the parts arrive I will try
H8571-J DB9-MMJ adaptor on my PC
Deconnect MMJ Crossover cable
H8575-E DB25-MMJ adaptor on the printer.

I hope this solves the problem.
Thanks
Roger

Thanks
