Printing Presentations that use non-packaged design templates

When I print a presentation that uses a design template
that comes with the powerpoint package, the handouts &
slides that print out only include the text of the
presentation. The design background of the design
template used in the presentation does not printout.

This is good as it allows us to save on the ink of our
colored printer or black and white printer.

Problem: When we print a presentation that uses a design
template we created ourselves, the handouts and slides
that printout include the background in the design
template. Why does this happen? Often, the design
template we create includes some clip-art or pictures.

Do we need to save picture or clip-art on the design
template we created using a certain format to prevent the
background of the design template from printing?

We are using powerpoint 2000 and powerpoint 2002.

Thanks!

Try going into Print Preview and changing from black and
white to color scale. By default, PowerPoint assumes a b&w
printer and that the design would intefer with the text.

It did not work. The photo on the design template we made
still prints out with the Text.

The thing is, in printing a presentation that uses a
design template that is provided by microsoft with the
powerpoint application, the only thing that gets printed
on the slides are the text. The background does not print
at all. This is good.

But when printing a presentation that uses the a design
template that we made ourselves, the design of the
template prints with the text as well.

Should the graphics or photos that we include in our
design templates be of a certain format? By default, we
always use JPEG, PNG, GIF or as a microsoft drawing object.

Is there some step we are missing in creating design
templates prior to saving the design templates we make
that makes powerpoint recognize that the graphics or
photos are part of the design template and should not be
printed?

Thanks!

When you are in the B/W settings (available when in B/W View), change the
background graphics to "don't show." That should do the trick.

It's been awhile since I looked at the different printing styles of
grayscale/black and white vs pure black and white, but IIRC, different
versions of PPT handle the background printing differently.

At any rate, you shouldn't have to make your graphics or photos different
image types. Oh, but how did you insert those into the backgrounds? Are you
using Format/Background/Fill Effects, or are you using Insert/Picture/From
File?

That did the trick! Thank you very much. I am forever
greatful. Thank you.

To create the design templates, I use three methods based
on what I need. They are:

1. The usual Format/Background/Fill Effects
2. Insert/Picture/From
3. At times, I paste a picture I copy from another
software like MS Paintbrush, and so on....

Thanks!
