printing page numbers e.g., (page 1 of 50)

In the footer of my documents, I insert the page number and the number of
pages in the document using field codes. For example, it says "page 22 of
47". When I print the document, often the page numbers print "page 22 of 22"
instead of "page 22 of 47". This happens both when I print to an Epson
printer and when I print to a PDF file using PDFwriter or Distiller.

Does anyone have any idea of why this happens? I can not figure it out and
it is incredibly frustrating.
