I have problem with a Windows Xp Pro Sp2. All update are done same thing with
the printer driver. The printer is a Laserjet 1000(Usb). Everytime the user
print, the document stay in the queue with an error message. The user must
reboot the computer and the job print after the computer reboot. The same
thing append if a stop and start the service manually with net stop spooler
and net start spooler. The job will print. Nothing appear in the event log.
There is a way to have a log file to track the problem. The problem seem to
be on all softawre when printing email with outlook or also with the
accouting software. The problem occur with her new laptop. I don't know if
regarding the printer, the new laptop or the windows spooler. I try to log in
on her laptop whit my user account. I print about 100 pages pdf, excel sheet,
word documents. The printing job hang only 1 time. I don't know why when she
log in it's append almost everytime.

I experienced the same problem, print jobs hang on the queue. If the user
has administrative rights, the job will print, otherwise it will hang on
queue. I used the information you provided about "Net stop spooler" and "Net
start spooler" and the jobs printed.

Are you in the console session or do multiple users log in to the machine?
I have seen drivers that post a print dialog to session 0 but no one is
logged in because they have switched to a different user and thus a
different log in session. Unfortunately the software does not know anything
about multiple sessions.

I'm not sure about the console session, but there are multiple users on each
machine. The printer is an HP OfficeJet 7310 with a network connection a
direct connection to the intranet.

Hi Alan,

Based on your responses to others with similar problems, I looked into the
event log and found that there was an error 7036 generated that said "The PML
driver HPZ12 has entered the stopped state". Hope you can help me with this.

Cool, you are closer to the answer. I have a feeling this software is
software is written by Zenographics since the Z in the file name is a mark
of theirs. I made a quick look at HP but did no find anything there. A
more thorough search might find the answer.

Restart the service in the service control manager. The spooler restart
must trigger this but when it dies there is not something out there to kick
it. You can change the restart option in services to automatically restart
on failure.

Sorry about taking so long to get back to you about this, but I felt that the
HP driver needed to be tested on a new installation of Windows XP and it took
me a little bit to get everything setup. With a clean, or brand new
installation of Windows XP, with the bare minimum of Thinkpad hardware
drivers installed, SP2, windows firewall turned off, the same thing happens
with the spooler. I am going to start a new post for this with the Event
viewer logs in it.
