Printing issue

We have a Wyse Winterm 9150SE that has an RDP connection to an office
pc. The connection is done over Telewest broadband. On the Wyse
Terminal there is a locally attached HP Deskjet 3845. The user wants to
print from her office pc onto the local deskjet printer. I've checked
the option under the Local Resources - Local Devices tab to connect
automatically to Printers, and would expect the printer to appear on
the user's office pc, but this is not the case.

Printer redirection is meant to work the other way around:

When you logon from the Wyse thin client to the Office PC, the local
printer should be redirected in the rdp session, which means that the
user sitting at the Wyse client can print from programs that are
running on the Office PC in the rdp session.
Is this working as it should? Is the printer redirected in the rdp
session?

The user sitting at the Office PC cannot see the printer, in fact,
this user cannot even work at the Office PC, since XP only allows one
session at a time.

So maybe you mean anyway what I wrote first? user sitting at Wyse
client wants to print from within the session?
If the printer isn't autocreated in the session, you probably have a
driver mismatch problem. Try to use a native driver which is present
on both the Office PC and the Wyse client. For HP DeskJets, the HP
DeskJet 550C usually gives good results.

Thank you very much for your reply, slightly confused with it though!
The user is not sitting at her office pc, she is on the Wyse Terminal
RDP'ing to the office pc. On the RDP session she should see the printer
appear but it doesn't. The printer has installed fine on the Terminal
and I can print okay. The printer is not being redirected to the office
pc in the RDP session when it should, that's the problem!

I was equally confused by your post :)
What confuses me is your use of "The user wants to print from her
office pc" and "The printer is not being redirected to the office
pc".
This led me to believe that the user was located at the office pc,
but I now understand that she is not.

The printer is not supposed to redirect to the office pc.
It's supposed to be autocreated in the rdp session on the Wyse
client. Just to make sure we don't misunderstand each other: she is
located at the Wyse client, the printer is installed on the Wyse
client, and she wants to print on the Wyse clients printer, correct?

Have you tried what I posted in my first reply:

She is located at the Wyse Terminal and the printer is attached to the
Wyse Terminal. She would like to print from her networked office pc
onto the printer that is locally attached to the Wyse Terminal, eg: she
RDP's into her work pc and opens her emails. She clicks on file - print
and sees the printer that is attached to her Wyse Terminal under her
list of printers. She clicks on print and voila, the email is printed
onto her local Wyse Terminal printer.

Under RDP - options - local resources there is an option to connect
automatically to local devices when logged into the remote computer.
Disk drives, printers and serial ports. I've checked the options for
printers and would therefore expect this lcoal printer to appear on her
office pc - but it doesn't.

Life, if it was ever easy...

The explanation is rather easy and very common, now that we agree
on what you want. It is most likely a driver issue.
If the driver names do not match *exactly*, or the driver is not
present at all on the Office PC, redirection cannot occur.

As an example, if the driver on the Wyse client is called
"HP DeskJet 3845" and at the Office PC it is called
"HP Deskjet 3845", printer redirection will not occur (case
sensitive!).
Moreover, the HP DeskJet 3845 printer driver is not included as a
native driver on XP, and to make things worse, it is not included
in the drivers that are tested with Terminal Services, meaning it
is unsupported and will probably not work correctly, if at all, in
an rdp session.

That's why I suggested that you use a more common driver.

Have you tried what I posted in my first (and second)reply:
