Printing File Property Information

When you right click on a file and click properties, then click the "summary"
tab, you can enter information about that file.

I have several folders with thousands of files that we have entered
information about and I would like to find a tool that will allow me to pull
this data so I can generate reports or otherwise analyze this data.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Several methods to accomplish this.......I like Tushar's best if importing
to Excel.

To add a "Print Directory" feature to Explorer, go to
this KB Article.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q272623&

Or you can download Printfolder 1.2 from.....

http://no-nonsense-software.com/freeware/

I use PF 1.2 and find it to be more than adequate with custom
features.

OR Go to DOS(Command) prompt and directory.
Type DIR >MYFILES.TXT

All the above create a *.TXT file which can be opened in Notepad or
Excel.

One more method if you want to by-pass the *.TXT file and pull
directly to Excel is to use Tushar Mehta's Excel Add-in. This allows
filtering and sorting once you have the data in Excel.

http://www.tushar-mehta.com/ scroll down to Add-ins>Directory
Listing.

Download the ZIP file and un-zip to your Office\Library folder.

sorry guys, I didn't get notified that I had replies...

these are pdf files that we've filled in the Title, Comments, and Category
fields...

as I mentioned, we accessed these fields by right clicking on the pdf,
choosing properties, then clicking on the Summary tab (simple view), and then
filling in information into these fields and saving.

thanks for any recommendations

I'm hoping for some help here.... there's got to be a way to get this
information.

Thanks!

That's really strange. I confirmed this tab was available on a word doc, a
bmp, a .zip file, and a .jpg. It isn't exclusive to pdf files. Are you
running pro, mce, or home? I'm running pro.

Can you tell me how to use the shell.application object anyway? I don't
know VB very well, so tell me like a 3rd grader. :)

Thanks!
