My user is using Windows XP sp2, Office xp SP3 with all updates loaded.
Every so often when using Word and pressing print, all the leters move to the
left hand edge of the page and stack themselves on top iof each other and
this is the way it is output by the printer. We have reinstalled the
printers and Office and ensured that we are using the most up to date
drivers. Has any body else come across this error and if so, what can I do
about it?

many thanks.

I don't think anybody knows the real cause of this but it seems to be
connected with printer drivers. try switching to a different printer and
back (if you don't have another physical printer, you an install a
generic/text only one).

We are getting the problem on multiple network printers. The other problem
with this is that not only do the letters print on the left hand side of the
paper, they also do this on the word document on the screen as well. I have
installed the printers as local printers and used the newest printers from
the HP site.

Word builds its on-screen display based on the active printer drivers so the
fact that the screen and the print are the same is to be expected. Although
I have nothing else really to suggest, this does sound like a printer driver
issue and it might be worth checking with HP if there are any known issues.

Did you get the drivers from http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/ ? Look there for
driver fixes.

According to fellow contributor Bob Buckland: "It's a bug that somehow seems
to have Word misreading temporary files related to the printer currently in
use. You can usually 'unscramble' the display from File=>Print and switch
to the printer properties or to another printer then your normal one, or
close Word and delete all files found on Start=>Search and looking for
~$*.*;*.tmp as the name string then restarting Word." See also
