Page numbers printing in middle of the page

Hi - I'm using Word XP and I have a document on letter-sized paper with 1"
margins all around. The header/footer are set to .5" from edge. The only
thing in the footer is the page number field. It looks great on screen but
when I print it our the page number prints a couple of inches from the bottom
of the page.
This occurrs only in this document. I can print other documents with footers
and they come out just fine. I tried copying one of those footers in, I tried
the format painter and no luck.
Any ideas????
Thanks

To trouble-shoot this, you may want to display nonprinting marks, for example
by pressing Ctrl+Shift+8. Are there any blank paragraphs (¶) in the problem
footer? Also check the line spacing for the page number paragraph, as well as
the Spacing Before and After (all of these options are found in Format |
Paragraph).

It might be easier to recreate the document (it certainly will be if the
issue is caused by document corruption). To do that: Delete any section
breaks in the document, then copy the text minus the final paragraph mark
(Ctrl+A, Shift+Left arrow, Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) it into a new document.
Finally, recreate the footer.
