Printers with Scanners

Chris Suckling

I am currently on the lookout for printers with scanner, the reason being
not so long ago i posted in here regarding the demise of my Epson Stylus C82
colour printers.

I would like to find a printer with scanner that works well with colour ink
?

Had thought about getting a laser printer but not sure whehter these are
made yet with Scanner in toe ?

Would prefer a scanner with it but if not would like printer def laser with
colour ?

Look forward to hearing from you

Regards

multifuncvtion devices are a bad choice unless space is critical and you
must have an auto doc feeder at a cheap cost. if you clog the printer
you loose the scanner. and you cannot get best of breed.

canon makes the best inkjet and epson makes the best scanner

You do realize that when the printer fails (for any reason) the scanner may not
work either?

The view that multifunction printers are a bad idea because you lose everything
if one component fails is possibly true for inkjet printers (depending on
several considerations).
However it is not so true for laser printers for two reasons, and you mentioned
the possibility of a laser printer in your post.
The reasons it is not so true are-
1. Laser multifunction printers, especially colour lasers are designed to be
repaired because of their high replacement cost and often major assemblies are
user replaceable.
2. Often the scanners used in good quality laser multifunctions are every bit
as good as stand alone scanners. This is often not true of scanners built into
inkjet multifunctions.
OKI, HP and Brother all make laser lmultifunctions of varying quality and cost,
many of them are colour. I am sure other manufacturers do also. You won't get
any heads clogging.
The questions are-
1. Can you justify the initial outlay for a laser multifunction?
2. Do you need high quality photo printing, good colour lasers produce very
good photos, not quite to the standard of a really good inkjet, but the gap is
closing.
3. Lasers usually provide a lower cost per page but need a higher initial
outlay, they are often faster but will only print on photo paper that is
designed for lasers. Never be tempted to use coated inkjet paper in a laser
unless you have deep pockets!

Concerning, Scanner failing when printer dies
My Epson CX6600 printer failed, Heads are done
Have removed all ink cartridges and given to Dad, ( so error lights
exclamation light, etc)
though when scanning using the pc smart panel software, all works fine.
Card readers and all other functions of the device function normally, the
thing just will never print another page again.
For a multi function laser,, I am considering a samsung scx 4200
Not colour printing , but does everything else for a reasonble price.

Most of the major printer companies offer a combination printer scanner.
However, keep in mind when one goes, the other is often lost, also.

You save desk space, but sometimes the drivers are poorly written and
will drive you crazy when not driving the 2 or 3 peripherals your all in
one contain.

Unless you require pigment ink and that permanence it provides, I would
suggest staying away from it in low cost printers, like the Epson C and
CX models. The tend to clog more easily than printers which use dye inks.
