Printer Will Not Install

printer quit printing over the weekeend. I have a NEC
Superscript 870 and it was working fine until this
morning. I disconnected and reconnected and when Windows
tries to reinstall it, it gives a message that it could
not install it because the port could not be recognized.
The printer is connected to the LPT1 port, but when I ceck
on the printer ports, LPT1 is nowhere in sight. The
driver I am using is designed for XP/2000, so the driver
is not the problem, is the port. Is there anyway to add
that LPT1 back into the system. Any help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for responding, Cari. I did dheck the bios and is
set up right. It has to be something within XP that is
not recognizing the LPT1. I tried to add a port, but it
gives me choices of LPT2 and up. Don't know what to do!!

Is LPT recognized in the Device Manager?

You might want to try uninstalling from the Device Manager, then rebooting
the PC and letting XP find and reinstall the drivers for the port to see if
that helps.
