Ok, I am trying to connect to a network printer (HP 2500c). I go
through the wizard and identify the printer by a UNC name and press
Next. Following that I get this message with a Yes/No prompt:

You are about to connect to a printer on nasrv90c, which will
automatically install a print driver on your machine...

If I choose Yes, it will come back saying that "Windows cannot connect
to the printer. The driver that you are trying to install in not
compatible with Windows XP". This is probably true, because the company
uses WinNT and the drivers on the printer server are for WinNT.

However, WindowsXP ships with HP 2500c drivers. How can I force it to
use the drivers that came with WinXP instead of the once on the printer
server?

I can't seem to get a prompt where I get to choose the
driver/printer/anything.

Thanks.
Using WinXP SP1.

The way our printer works is when we hooked it to the win2k server and
installed it, it asked if we needed to install drivers for other operating
systems. I think this is what you need. Check the printers preferences on
the computer its phyisically attached to. This is where ours is:
Right click the printer, properties, sharing tab, additional drivers.

This has sometimes worked in Win2K but I don't recall doing it in XP:

Install the printer as a local printer on LPT1, uncheck Automatically
detect printer, find the model and procede as though it was on LPT1 but
don't do a test page. After the driver installs rt-clk on the printer
object, Ports tab, Add port, and type in the UNC for the networked printer.
