Printer Spoolerand driver problems

Hi
I was running about 60+ processes on my pc at once, which i believed to be
far to high resulting in much slower boot and shut-down speeds.

Using msconfig and a process diagnostic check list on the web, I removed
some of these unwanted processes. While this partly improved the speed, the
side effect is that I no longer have any drivers installed for my Lexmark
X1160 printer!!

When I try to print a document, the pc informs me that no drivers are
installed for my printer. when i try to find or install them, the 'printer
spooler service' is not available???

I have re-activated some of the processes in msconfiq, but no luck. I have
also tried to re-install the drivers from the cd-rom that came with the
printer, but due to the spooler service being down, still no luck

any ideas guys?

(36 years after the moon landing, still no efficient pc systems?????)

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, I followed it straight through but unfortunately it
hasnt corrected all the problems!!

The printer now appears in the 'Printers and Fax's Installed' section. The
usual icon is now near the clock in the bottom right corner. However, when i
go to print, i get a new error saying basically there are no drivers for the
printer installed!!

So I try to install the drivers with the original CD-Rom, but no luck error
message stating 'Printer Module Unknown' - I download a driver from the web,
same message!

So the spooler seems to work now, but still no luck with the missing lexmark
drivers?

Any more clues??
Cheers for your help so far, Justin

Disconnect the printer from the PC. Do Bruce's instructions one more time.

Reboot the PC. Download a new set of drivers from the Lexmark website....

Install the software from Lexmark and do NOT connect the printer until the
software tells you to do so.

HI, thanks for the further info.

I gave it a try and followed it through exact. At first, I thought it had
worked as the installation was different. Instead of only giving me the
option 'update existing drivers', it seemed to install all thei nfo as if it
was the first time.

However, I noticed something odd when the shortcut had not been replaced on
the desktop. I rebooted again just incase, went to print and it still insists
no drivers installed!!

Im lost!!!

Sorry, just to add incase its relevant, The scanner works (its an all in one
printer) and the image it scanned is sent to the computer. However, even when
you scan, you still get the 'printer drivers not installed'. Its weird how
the printer and computer are talking (ie the scanner) but just wont print??

Did you try it on another PC? It might be that the printer part has
actually failed and gone to printer heaven.

I thought about your last idea, but then i thought well, the printer is less
than a year old, and hasnt been used heavily. If the hardware was to fail, i
reckon all the hardware would go, not just some functions etc.

So well, looking back to software i decided to turn all the processes i had
previously turned off, on again, and reboot the pc in 'normal set-up' mode.
In msconfig under the 'services' tab, 'Lexbce server' was unticked. I
recognised the 'lex' part as being something to do with my printer. I also
re-ticked this box, then re-booted the pc.

At first this didnt solve the problem, but for some reason i thought id try
the installation disc for the printer one more time after this. This time, it
uploaded all the drivers as if the printer never existed and worked!!
everythings fine now. Seems like it was something to do with the 'Lexbce
server' being turned off. Well, whatever it did, it made the difference!!

Thanks, Timbersnake
