I hooked up a printer (Brother HL-5040) loaded the driver and away i went
(worked OK). THEN i went and uplugged the printer from the XP system to another
system. After putiing the printer back i cant get it to print. UNinstall &
reinstall dirver get to a certain point & XP says it cant start spooler during
reinstall. It sounds like windows has the port captive from the last install &
won't let me use it. This MUST be a simple fix. WHo out there knows whats going
on?

THANX,
JWB

Is it USB? Check the device manager for any strange device states.
Sometimes USB has to be uninstalled. Don't know all the in and outs,
perhaps somebody will provide more info.

In between the swaps, I have lost track of the order sequence of the printer
driver installation and the printer plugging in. Unless the driver is
installed first before the printer is connected to the computer --- software
before hardware --- you'll get the scenario you described.
