Sounds familiar. I've got an HP Laserjet 1000 that occasionally gets
hung up trying to print from a spool file. I know this since the data
light stays on, but no page printed. When I go to the spool folder,
c:\windows\system32\spool\pfinters, I find one or two .shd & .spl
files that can't be deleted, since they're in use.

I assume that spool files are necessary, since this printer has only 1
meg of memory. Reboot into the safe mode, and delete any .shd & .spl
files in that folder. Reboot in normal mode, and everything should
work OK.

If you have an HP 1000, it's possible to have to reinstall the
printer. I've had to do that once. Let me know if you still have a
problem, and I'll send you more steps to try.
