printer sharing

Joe

I have 3 computers ,win xp pro all connected to the internet thru a
wireles connection. I have one computer with a Dell 1710n laser printer.
How do I share this printer with the other 2?
I thought I could use the unused NIC card on each computer with a
switch but found out that a NIC and a wireless card cannot be used at
the same time. I lost the wireless connection.
The wireless router is in another room and I don't want to run a 50ft
cable thru the ceiling and walls.
A person told me I could share thru the wireless connection by
installing the printer cd on the other 2 computers. I will try this on
Monday.
If anyone has a suggestion , please reply and thanks in advance for any help

The following assumes that you have the "File and Printer Sharing" protocol
installed on your network.

Don't install the CD. First be sure the printer you want to share is set up
that way. Go to: Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes and right-click the
printer you want to network. Select "Properties" then click the "Sharing"
tab. Check the "Share this printer" radio button. Enter any name for your
printer (e.g., HP Laser). Click apply and OK.

Now on the second PC do this: Go to: Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes
double-click "Add Printer". Click Next. Check the "A network printer, or
printer attached to another computer." check box. On the "Specify Printer"
page you can either click "Browse for Printer" or enter the path to the
printer as the example shows. Give the network a minute to find the printer
and establish the connection. If the entire driver software package is
installed on the host computer the minimal driver set will be copied to the
second computer. When you are finished the new printer icon will appear in
the Printers folder.

Repeat for the third PC. Sharing a printer is not the same as networking
one. If you have a printer connected to a print server the printer can be
used at any time that the server is up. If you have simply shared a printer
over a network then the only time the other PCs can use the printer is when
the host computer is running and the printer is on.
