Printer sharing

Hi all,

I have two XP machines, one pro and one home. Both have SP2, both are in
the same workgroup, and are on the same subnet connected via the same switch.

Machine1 has a printer connected via USB and then shared as HPLaser.
Machine1 can see Machine2 across the network via "Workgroup Computers".
Machine1 can place a file into Machine2's shared folder. Machine2 can see
Machine1 via "Workgroup Computers" but CANNOT see any shared drivers or
printers. When trying to map the printer, I receive the message like "You
are not authorized to use this resourece". If use the command line, the
usual message is "Error 53, the network path is not found" or the like.

Machine1 and Machine2 have the same account/password combos, and no other
permissions have been set on any resource. They are 'out of the box'. I
can't begin to understand why I'm having these problems, because I can't seem
to duplicate it anywhere else.

Other settings: 802.1x auth is turned off, both have client for ms networks
installed, netbios is enabled by default, and no firewalls on either (turned
off).

Help!

Thanks in advance!!

Hello chris

Does the Server service is working properly and started ?
Are you able to access your shared printer with your browser as
http:\\localhost/printers ?

Hi chris

From both machine run the following command from a command prompt
Net share

can you see the printer on the machine where you have define the share and
can you see all shares define on the other machine.
If yes then it is not comming from the sharing process but more from
permision.

Does on your machine2 the SImple File sharing is set ?
Which permision is set on your share printer ?
