Background
i have a desktop and a laptop .Both run windows XP sp2. I can ping both
these machines from each other- however if i share a folder on my
laptop and browse on the desktop i cannot connect to the shared
folder(other way also doesnt work ie if i share on dektop and try to
acees from latop)
ie Run \\192.168.2.2\MyShare from 192.168.2.3 returns an error. The
laptop and the desktop connect via a router.
Configuration
Laptop-------------------------------Wireless
router----------------------------------Router to WAN
Desktop-----------------------------------I
I have the same user name (machine1\suma and machine2\suma) on both the
machines.
I dont tink it is the router which prevents SMB traffic
Any pointers on how to troubleshoot this issue?
Help appreciated.

Suma,

What is the complete and exact error message? The "...cannot access..." error
has many variants, each leading to different causes.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

If you wish, you can look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config
server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the
problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):
