Network has internet access but NO file/ printer sharing

I appologize in advance for the length of this post.

I am trying to file/ printer share. My desktop computer is connected to
router through cat 5. My laptop has a ethernet adaptor card which connects
wireless to router. Both computers can access the internet sucessfully.

I ran the network wizard on the desktop and worked fine. When I try to run
the wizard the laptop, only one connection is avaliable. This connection is
the cat 5 connection at the back to the laptop. The adaptor card is not shown.

When I go to "network connections", both the Local area connection and the
wireless connection are shown.

When I am using the desktop computer, I can file share with the laptop. When
using the laptop, I cannot file share with the desktop.
