Home Networking Problem

I have two machines, let's call them Desktop (XP Pro) and Laptop (XP Home).
I'm trying to set up a wired network through the router.
Network Setup Wizard went through all the steps fine. The computers are
visible in the Workgroup list. Laptop can access Desktop's shared resources,
but Desktop cannot access Laptop (Access Denied). No firewalls that I know of
are installed on the latop. ICF is turned off. Net View (from the Desktop)
gives a System Error 5, so it looks like a permission issue. Guest accounts
are active on both machines. Pinging is fine. Rebooted a thousand times.
What's a good way to approach this? How can I see/change permissions on the
Laptop?

Thanks.

Run the registry editor (Start | Run | regedit) on the laptop and open
this key:

HLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA

Set the value of "restrictanonymous" to 0, reboot the laptop, and try
accessing the laptop again.

I have a 'nearly' identical problem - one which unfortunately hasn't been
solved by your tip above (the value on both machines is already set to '0').

I have 2 XP Home SP2 machines. One's a PC and one's a laptop. The PC can
see and alter all share folders on the laptop but I get "access denied" error
messages when I try and access shared folders on the PC. I've tried
disabling all firewalls and have checked that the PC's folders are shared but
nothing seems to work.

Have you any idea what may be causing this? I have in the past been able to
connect both ways but that was before I had to re-install XP.

Many thanks.

Steve
