Printer sharing

I have an HP LaserJet printer connected to an XP pro computer, with printer
sharing allowed for an XP Home computer and an ME computer. Only lately,
those two other computers seem to have random problem accessing that
printer, sometimes. When one doesn't communicate neither does the other, it
seems. Usually, rebooting of computers and printer does help, but not
always the first time, and nevertheless, it is a pain.

I have a CD ROM for the printer, in case I need that. I assume that the
driver files may be corrupted but since the problem is with two computers,
am not so sure. Also, would I want to get updated drivers from the web?

What is the best way to fix this?

In case it helps:

In my prior e-mail, I meant Windows file and printer sharing. I think I
also am have trouble with the file sharing, too, though am not sure.
