Hi,

I have the following Problem:

I connect to a Windows 2003 Terminal Server from a Windows XP SP1
workstation using the built-In "remote desktop connection"
(mstsc.exe).

I have a couple of network printers installed on my windows xp
workstation and I installed the exact same printer drivers on the
terminal server.

The Problem is, that none of my local network printers are redirected
to my RDP session !? The event log doesn't show any abnormal events. I
checked Microsoft KB 302361, didn't help !

What can the problem be??

Please help, Dani

Are you trying to print from MS Applications (like Excel,
Word and so?) or from 3rd partty applications? or from a
DOS based program?

If you were able to add the network-printers to your
session in the terminal server, were you able to at least
print a test page? or nothing?

I suggest you try to share one of this printers from YOUR
windows XP machine (yes I know that would like sharing
something is already shared by some one else). And then
try to add this shared printer on the terminal server.

There are options where you can automatically export your
local printers to the terminal server so you could look
into that too -

It is not recommended to install 3th party printer drivers on a
Terminal Server, since they often are not completely TS-compatible
and can cause your printer spooler to crash.

That your printers don't autocreate is probably caused by a slight
difference in the driver names on the client and the server.

The remedy is to uninstall all 3th party printer drivers and map
all printers that don't autocreate to a native printer driver on
the server by creating a custom .inf file. Details are
explained here:.

239088 - Windows 2000 Terminal Services Server Logs Events 1111,
1105, and 1106

You can check the recommended native driver substitution for your
local printers here:

Hi Vera,

Thanks for the answer...

I created the registry entries / NTPRINTSUBS.INF file and mapped the
printers accordingly... didn't help.

The problem is, that i can't see any Logs Events 1111, 1105, and 1106
and I am running W3K Terminal Server!

I enabled printer redirection with a GPO and I can see in each user
sessions some Printer Ports TS00x, but no Printer is autocreated!!!

It seems that the printer redirection feature in windows terminal
server makes only problems!! I spent almost 2 days playing around with
this feature!!

Please help, Thanks, Dani

the following registry value has ben set wrongly:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd]
"fEnablePrintRDR"=dword:00000000
