Printer problems after downloading WinXP SP2

I just updated WinXP Pro with SP2 and now my printer doesn't seem to respond
to print commands. I used the printer trouble shooter and did the various
items, but it has not fixed the connection. The printer worked fine before
this update today. I connect the printer to the computer via a USB cable.
Any thought would be appreciated.

Uninstall and reinstall.... not forgetting to check for update drivers at
the manufacturer's website.

Uninstall (not delete) the printer drivers. If you have a NON USB keyboard
and mouse, also uninstall the USB port and controller drivers. Disconnect
the printer from USB.
Power cycle the PC, and reinstall the USB port and controller drivers. Some
Motherboard chip sets may require OEM drivers instead of the included
windows drivers. Reboot, and install the printer drivers. Usually USB
printer drivers must be installed before the printer is connected to a USB
port. Some poorly written drivers require that the printer be connected to
the first USB port for the install process to work correctly. Once
installed, the printer can usually be moved to another port during power
off, and will be detected and work properly.
