Printer Problem on Mom's Computer (She's 87)

My mom uses her PC all teh time to send and receive email
and writes her memories on Wordpad. Her computer uses
Win2000 Pro. The Lexmark 5700 printer used to work fine.
Now an error message come up on PC bootup when the Win
screen comes up saying there is a "spool error".

When I go to printer wizard to reinstall the LXK5700
driver for Win2000 (or any other printer), the following
error appears:
"Printer operation cannot continue due to a lack of
resources. The print subsystem is unavailable."

She has 19G of free space on a 20G HDD. I just
reinstalled Win2000, and it did not fix it.

I would welcome any helpful ideas.
