I have 'Enable Printer Pooling' selected within the printer settings but for some reason, something is causing this box to be come unchecked. I have tested aa couple of scenarios which do not result in the option becoming unchecked, eg switching off the printer, PC, unplugging etc. There is one thing which does uncheck this option which is when you use the safely remove hardware option. However, something is automatically un-checking this option when I am nowhere near the PC in question? Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Hi roxaneamanda,

To start the Spooler service, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  3. Double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the start up type to Automatic. This sets the Spooler service to start automatically when you restart the computer.
  4. If you want to start the spooler service immediately, click Start under the Service Status field.

Hi Roxaneamanda,

You can try adding printer thru this command so it might solve your Pinter Pooling issue

Code:
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /Xs /n "GenericT" Portname "LPT1:,TS001"

(where "GenericT" is the printer name, and "TS001" is the port created by XP )

Works a treat!

Printer pooling allows you to print to several printers at once. If you have a large print job you can submit it to the pool and the operating system will balance the load among the printers. It doesn't sound like that's your issue. Can you provide more information:
application printing from
operating system
etc.

Weare using a USB printer attached to a Windows XP box, on that box there are windows apps which obviously use the USB port to print, but we have a DOS based application which needs to print to LPT1, this is the reason for switching on printer pooling between LPT1 and USB.

However, we have managed to figure out that it is not doing what we first thought, it is only if the printer drivers are re-installed that the printer pooling option needs to be manually set again after this.
