After installing SP2, my HP printer is identified as
being new each time I boot the system and XP configures
the printer again. Does anyone know what cauases this
problem?

Disconnect the printer. In the Control Panel > System > Advanced >
Environment variables add a new variable
devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
and set it to "1". Open the Device Manager and remove all printers
listed here. Shut down Windows. Connect the printer and restart your
computer to have the printer drivers reinstalled.
