printer is acting up

I was printing out a document and the ink cartridge
carrier made a whining noise and quit printing. Now, the
carrier won't work on its own going back and forth. It
said something about the carrier mechanism but then the
screen went back to the close print window. Now, the
printer sounds like it scrolling back and forth but
nothing is working. And the green on light is flashing

This seems very much like a mechanical part failure. Generally a cogged belt
runs around some wheels, one of which is powered to drive the print-head
carrier across the platen. Possibly the belt is broken or misaligned on the
wheels. Lift the cover and inspect. Arrange for servicing if appropriate.
