Printer driver files missing

I'm running Vista Ultimate with an HP OfficeJet PSC950. When I first plugged
in the printer (usb) it was recognized, windows installed the drivers and all
was good.

The next day I couldn't print to this printer. When I pull up the printer
properties (Control Panel/Printers/Printer Properties) the Set Printing
Defaults button is gone and when I click Print Test Page I get an error
message "Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print
troubleshooter for assistance? Some driver files are missing or incorrect.
Reinstall the driver or try using the latest version."

If I unplug the printer, delete the printer in Control Panel/Printers, then
plug the printer back in it will reinstall and work again for another day,
but then the problem repeats. I've tried using different USB ports, but that
does not help.

Any ideas??

Thanks

It's possible you have an older model printer that is redetected each
time you turn your PC on, and for some reason it does not install the
drivers automatically when it redetects.
