printer doesn't spool

I have recently upgraded to Windows XP with SP2. I have a DeskJet 722c
printer which requires the OS to take care of all the printing
processing. The only thing this printer does is power up the carraige
and ink. It does not have a chip inside it. In windows 98se it had
always spooled the print jobs, but for some reason it isn't doing it
anymore. I have checked off the spool print jobs so printing finishes
faster and the start printing immediately box. I have also checked off
print spooled documents first. The only other thing I looked at is the
print processor section, but I have no idea what it means. Modprint or
Winprint. Windows XP has set it at Winprint with default data type RAW.

What is happening is that when I print anything, if I open the printer
dialogue box and look at the document status, it says printing. It
doesn't say spooling. And also, I cannot close the window or the
document stops printing midstream because it isn't spooling. This is a

pain in the butt. I hate the new OS. Having a bunch of problems with
end of life issues and no drivers available for XP. The only reason I
upgraded was to get faster DSL speeds. Evidently, the only good thing
was better drivers for my network card. Everything else is crap. But,
if anyone can help me with the spooling issue on my printer, it would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mary

Have you downloaded the latest XP drivers for the printer? If no XP drivers
it is time for a new printer.
There is no reason your DSL would run any faster with XP.

IT IS MUCH SLOWER AND THE BUSINESS DOCUMENTS ARE NOT QUITE AS GOOD. I
DO SUSPECT THE PHOTOS ARE NEARLY THE SAME.

In theory, you are correct. The ability of the data passing the wire should
be the same. My experience is a bit different though. I have an XP machine
and W98 machine on the same line through the same router. The XP machine is
consistenly faster according to tests at www.broadbandreports.com The XP
is running 2340/420 while the W98 runds about 1895/420.

Probably not so much the line speed, but the ability of the computer to
handle the data coming in.

Now, people in general will definitely loose their jobs or house because of
that few pages slower printing... ;-)
i did know what else is different, but i forgot...

I don't know why either. But with Win 98SE my speeds were 655 kbps and
all I did was change to win xp and now my speeds are 1450 kbps.

One thing anyone should do is check the settings. at
www.braodbandreports.com you can do speed test. Thee is also a test called
Tweak that tells you what to change and you can even use another program
called DRTCP to make the changes. I was able to double the W98 speed that
way.
