printer connection

i have a dell dimension 5150c and i want to connect my epson stylus 600 until
i get a new printer. 5150c only has usb 2. ports and 1394s. bought a cable
that is usb to 36 pin printer end. cable is only rated 1. anyway it will
not run. rejected small driver disc that came with cable. rejected epson
original disc. loaded microsoft internal driver. still no joy. should i
just give up and replace printer. any ideas? when replying i am a total
novice.

Do you mean the Epson Stylus Colour 600 printer that uses the parallel
connection to connect? If so, here's the manual:

If you have a spare PCI slot on your motherboard then you can buy a parallel
PCI card. They cost around £5

Although, as you are English you can go into Staples & pick up a new USB
printer for £30 which will do you a turn until you decide to get a decent
