Printer Connect without password

Hitesh

I have 2 WinXP and 2 Vista Home Basic on my network.
There is a printer attached to one of the Vista machines, and its shared.
When I first tried to connect my WinXP PC to that printer, I was asked to
log into that PC. Why is this necessary? All I want to do is print, not
access the PC itself.
If I key log in, then the WinXP user can not only print, but also access my
Vista PC contents, so that does not make sense.
Secondly, this works only till the next reboot of either the Vista or WinXP
PC.

Pls help

You have not successfully set the printer as a 'Network' share. This varies
from a 'Local'' share, and will be a separate checkbox for network sharing
on the sharing tab of the properties.
You have noted that signing on lets them print. This is because they then,
in effect, become a 'local' share member.

I went to Control Panel, then Printers, then right clicked on the subject
printer.
Clicked on Sharing, and did not see anything that says "Local" or "Network"
share.
Pls note printer is connected physically by USB to the PC, not to a router.
