Printer - access denied

Bob P.

Tried to print to a dot matrix printer (Panasonic KX-P1524
in Epson LQ-1500 mode) from the command prompt. I did this
because I kept getting errors trying to print in a normal
fashion. I can run a test page on the printer its self. I
hear a response from the printer when I boot up (appears
that the cable is working) I deleted the Lpt1 a couple of
times from the devise manager too. Following directions
from the Windows Support window, I also stopped & started
the spooler. I am running XP Standard on a 1300Mhz CPU.
The defalt printer works OK (Epson 740).
When I type: ECHO HELLO CTRL^L DIR> LPT1 I get
back "Access is denied"
Sounds like some sort of a configureation problem, but I
don't have a clue how to fix it. Can someone offer
advice??
