Print to Word

Jason

Tried searching on the web but found nothing for printing.

Is there a way to print from an application to Word (like virtual printer)?
Also looking for PDF to word converter. Haven't found free converters.

Thanks,

I'll see what I can find out about then. I thought Primo and Cute were PDF
print drivers and they didn't come up in the searches.

I am aware of that but I did NOT answer that question.
I only answered the prime question on a Word printer.
I repeat:

Absolutely nothing to do with the question I replied to.

I may have misunderstood.

You want something that will create an editable document out of a PDF file?

Word isn't a printer and so you can't print to it. Are you actually
looking for a format converter? Your question is not clear (and no, it
doesn't have anything to do with XP).

PDF to doc converters - there is a large dependency on the source material.
If the original PDF source is a scan, the PDF contains an image, not text.
The same problem arises with trying to use a fax image.

Acrobat (not the Reader, IIRC) does contain some text recognition routines
(called OCR) that can convert these images to text, though it's never a good
idea to rely solely on this; you must do a word for word proofread. OCR
is a complex process and is very seldom free, as the programs that offer it
frequently incorporate licensed software.

To clarify: to print to .doc file that is used by MS Word. Like pdf955 that
can print to .pdf file but can't be opened in MS Word therefore can not be
edited at a later date.

Need further clarification. What application are you starting with? You
can't print to a DOC file, but in some applications you may be able to
save a file as a DOC file. OpenOffice.org comes to mind. My guess is
that you need an OCR program to accomplish your objective.

Of course not, because PDF files aren't intended to be particularly
editable. The PDF format is intended to provide a consistent appearance
for compound documents, containing words, charts, tables, images, etc.
regardless of platform. It isn't intended to be an editable file any more
than a JPEG is.

To edit PDF files after they are created, you need something like Acrobat,
not reader, just as you need an image editor to edit JPEG files.

Word isn't a PDF editor.

What you can sometimes do, depending on the options chosen by the person who
created the PDF, and which may give results that are not particularly
helpful, is highlight the text in the PDF, then choose Copy and Paste into a
Word doc or text file. Expect to lose most if not all formatting.

Can not copy from PDF files - won't select text. Like you say it's best to
get hold of the original file and keep the ones we create. Also I may use
the html format instead of the PDF format.
