Print to file question

Tom Guntzel

Exactly what does the print to file option do? I thought
that it would put everything necessary in a file so that
you could take that file to a different location and print
it directly on the same printer the output was designed
for. For instance, I want to plot something on a HP
plotter which I do not have. If I install the driver for
the printer, print the job to file, couldn't I take that
file to a place that has a plotter and have it printed?

Thanks
Tom G.

This is one use, which has been partly superseded by pdf files.

Another is to directly check printer output when you're programming and
debugging.
