Print Spooling

Can anyone help please?
I am running windows XP Professional and have a HP Laserjet 6L. I switched
my pc on the other day and the printer icon had disappeared. I have tried
everything with regard to starting the print spool but get the following
error message:
error3. The system cannot find the path specified

I have tried cleaning my spools. I am unable to add a printer, i have tried
going through the registry and following the instructions there but when i
try to locate drivers or monitor, the files are not there or are located
elsewhere. Can anyone help please?
Also, for further information, my PC has lexmark printer software installed
as i believe this can make a difference

Uninstall the Lexmark software if no Lexmark printer is connected.
Look in Device Manager > Ports to see if the LPT1 port is present and assigned for
printers.

Boot to Safe Mode.
Remove/uninstall all printers listed in Printers and Faxes.
Remove the LPT1 port in DM.
Delete the contents of c:\documents and settings\your user name folder\local
settings\temp folder.
Delete the contents of c:\windows\temp folder.
Delete the contents of c:\windows\prefetch folder
Reboot and reinstall your printer per the manufacturers instructions.
