Print Spooler Not Running

T

ToddW

In my 64-bit installation, the print spooler server suddenly stopped running
(and will not restart). I've tried cleaning out registry keys
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print), deleting the
files out of Windows (C:\Windows\System32\spool) to no avail.

The system log contains many of these:
Error Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider 7034 None

The application log contains these:
Warning SpoolerSpoolss 1035 None
The print spooler failed to load print provider localspl.dll. This can occur
because of system instability or a lack of system resources.
Error SpoolerSpoolss 1027 None
The system failed to initialize the local print provider: Error 0. This can
occur because of system instability or a lack of system resources.

Can someone help diagnose this issue??

I can start the service, but as soon as the printer control panel is opened,
the service stops.

I had the same issue. The way that I was finally able to resolve it was by
going into Windows/system32/Spool/Printers and deleting all SHD and SPL
files. I deleted everything in there and then restarted the spooler. Now it
seems to be working fine. Hope it does for you too.
