hi,

My "print screen" doesn't work. Perhaps it is my keyboard problem ?
Is there another way to do a "print screen" then ?

It works. It just doesn't do what you expect it to do.

Back in the days of DOS, the PrtScn key used to print the screen. But
in all versions of Windows, this works differently, and the name of
the key is now an anachronism.

To use the key, press it to capture an image of the entire screen, or
press alt-PrtScn to capture an image of the active window. Either one
captures the image to the Windows clipboard. Once it's in the
clipboard you can paste (Ctrl-V) it into any application that supports
graphics (Windows Paint, other graphics programs, even your favorite
word processor). You can edit or add to the image as you wish, then
print it.

This ability to manipulate the image in a program before printing it
is an improvement over the original DOS method of just printing it.
But if you'd like that old facility back, there are several
third-party freeware/shareware programs that can do this, such as

I've actually already tested on MSPaint and it doesn't work. It used to work
hundreds of times before this. Not sure why it isn't anymore.

Any ideas ?

Do you have a newer keyboard with an F-Lock key? It may be changing the function of the PrtScn key if it's not locked.

No. It does work. What he already knew was how to use PrtScrn, by
pasting into an application that supports graphics. That's what he
should have told us up front that he had already tried, and failed at.

What, precisely, are you expecting to happen when you press the key?
Nothing is going to print immediately, if that's what you thought would
happen.

Perhaps it is my keyboard problem ?

Pressing the <PrtScn> key copies the entire display, including the
Desktop Wallpaper, to the clipboard (iow, into RAM). Pressing
<ALT>+<PrtScn> copies only the active Window to the clipboard. To view
the screen capture, open a graphics program, such as MS Paint, and press
<CTRL>+V. This will paste the contents of the clipboard (your
screenshot) into the open file, and allow you to view it or save it as a
file for later use.

I can't even see the "Paste" on the "Edit" toolbar being activated.

I'm thinking it's a problem w my keyboard ? no ?

I suggest you use the Clipbook Viewer to check if the PrintScrn key has
saved the display to the clipboard.

Do other copy/paste operations work? If not, try this:

Click Start, Run, and enter these lines:

regsvr32 ole32.dll (Press Enter key)
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll (Press Enter key)

Also try Kelly's tweak (you'll find instructions at the top of the page).
