Print Screen Question

On 4/17/05 I posted a question re: Print Screen. On 4/18 I was unable to
find the post or any possible replies, so I posted it again. I know the
original post must have appeared because someone replied to the second
telling me to look at the first post. I have not been able to find it even
though a search finds the second and posts I have made months ago.

Anyway, can anyone answer my original question?
My print screen key( and alt+print screen) does not send the screen to my
printer. My printer works fine in all other situations, like printing from
Word, Notepad or anything else. And if I use print screen key and then paste
into a document, that works also. I just can't send the screen shot (or
active
window) to the printer directly. I am using XP Pro.

The Print screen key won't send something from the clipboard directly to the
printer, you'll need to use something like Paint or Word to do that job.

Your print screen key is working as designed. It does not send the screen
content to your printer like the name implies.

The prtscn and alt | prtscn function just copy an image of your desktop or
window to the clipboard. Open an imaging program of your choice (paint comes
with Windows) and paste the image onto a blank page. You can then actually
save/print the image from there.

That being the case, why would we expect you to be able to find the
responses to this, the third post on the same subject?

That's exactly the way it's supposed to work. The <PrtScn> key
hasn't sent data directly to a printer for many years, now.

Pressing the <PrtScn> key copies the entire display to the
clipboard. Pressing <ALT>+<PrtScn> copies only the active Window to
the clipboard (iow, into RAM). To view the screen capture, open a
graphics program, such as MS Paint, and press <CTRL>+V. This will
paste the contents of the clipboard (your screenshot) into the open
file, and allow you to view it or save it as a file for later use.

There are utilities that are available that can enable the print screen key
to send directly to the printer. HP has one called PrintScreen v.1.0. I dont
know if this utility will work on any system that is not an HP. There must
be other tools out there, Google it.
