print problems in Word Perfect

I'm running Windows XP home with SP2. My printer is a new Lexmark 5400, but
I was having this same problem wirh my old printer too. When I try to print
something in Word Perfect nothing happens. If I press print again the task
bar at the top goes to white and the blue bar at the top says "Not
Responding". I have to exit out of Word Perfect and recall my projest at
least three times and sometimes as many as five times before it will print.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word Perfect and as I said I have a new
printer so the old one was uninstalled and the new one installed and it
didn't solve my problem. It's so annoying. Any Ideas??? Thanks, Rosalie
