print job won't completely spool

G

Guest

When I'm trying to print to a network printer, the job will go to the
spooler, and won't complete spooling. It stops about a third of the way, e.g.
64k/180k. After a minute or two I get the message "Document failed to print."

I've tried sending directly to the printer, creating a local printer port,
Standard TCP/IP port, moved spooler file to temp directory, change pagefile
size, applied hotfix for article 893225... NOTHING seems to work!

Thanks, but that is just generic info on how to add a printer. That's not the
problem. The print job STOPS and won't spool completely.

Yes, I can ping it easily. I've tried RAW & LPR modes. I think the problem is
with the print server. Printers NOT on that device I can print to easily. The
print server is running NT 4.5 I believe. Take that back... it MAY be the
print server, but others on the network don't necessarily have the same
problem. May be the switch I'm linked through.

How is the Standard TCP/IP port setup (LPR mode, RAW mode, SNMP enabled?

If you are using the Standard TCP/IP port to send data to another windows
machine, you must send the data using the LPR protocol (there is no built in
service accepting raw tcpip print traffic). The Windows "server" machine
must be running the LPD print service to accept print data on port 515. The
Standard TCP/IP port must be configure in LPR mode using the queue name as
the print share on the remote machine and must be configure in byte-count
enabled mode.

Thanks for the info. This is something I'll let our tech guys (now there's a
laugh) know about. I'll be doing some troubleshooting this weekend to isolate
the problem.
