Print in Wordpad

WinXP PRO with latest patches
Printing in Wordpad is very light on both the Laser and DeskJet printers.
Printing in Notepad and all other applications is normal.
Is that by design or is it some defect which can be corrected, but how?

Same font in both?
 
When I open an existing document I have to change the font to bold to
have it printed normally? When I open the same in Notepad or Word it
prints OK.
If I create a new one and change the default font to a different one
(normal not bold), it prints properly.
Do I have to experiment every time I either open an existing or create
a new document?
Isn't there a default behavior?

Click Format, Font. If the color is not black, click it and set
it to black.

That should do it. If not, check back and include what you've
tried to date.
