Print errors with XP

I have an older Pentium III computer and a HP PSC 500 printer. Since
upgrading to XP Pro and Office 2003, I have a printing problem. Print jobs
always print back to front (last page first). The printer preferences screen
state print front to back, but no luck
 
Change your print preferences to back to front should solve it. Why?
I don't know but it did for me.
