1)Genna will not sell or lease the domain.

2) It is unfortunate that Susan feels unable to work under the
constraints imposed by the domain owner.

3) A new site administrator has volunteered, who has superb
qualifications, unimpeachable character, the confidence of myself and
Genna plus the time to implement improvements/necessary changes in a
timely fashion

4)The volunteer is none other than Garrett, onetime administrator of

inception...

5)We are gratified that such an able candidate has seen fit to step
forward in this, our hour of need.

6) We strongly urge all members of the newsgroup to create their own PL

that freeware options as opposed to "free downloads" still exist.

Yes, I agree - very good news and may I wish Susan all the best and look
forward to bookmarking that site as well. Long live Pricelessware and
the fine folk that keep our freeware cravings satisfied!

Susan had that right, which should have been recognized.
To quote your own words:
"I understand your desire to have complete control of a site you have
largely built and completely maintain."
Moving to a new site was no problem, getting pricelessware.org to point
to that new site was, thanks only to Genna.

But he has been away too long and does not understand the situation.
He should not have stepped in here. It leads to an impossible

Complete bullsh*t. And you know it.
Of course there should be only one pricelessware site.
Susan should have been able to continue her impeccable work on a new
site with pricelessware.org pointing to that site.

Now that's crap. No one asked if anyone was willing to step in and
manage the Pricelessware site. There was no thread asking for volunteers
for the position of webmaster. Now that someone has offered to the job
they are not qualified because they have not posted here in awhile?

Why, you mean that no one except for one person who can
"report" what freeware has been voted to be Pricelessware?
Wouldn't more site reporting this results would be better for
the public? Just like no newspaper are excluded to report a
result of a competition or election. It can only be good.

Thanks for the info and for relaying the word. It looks like there

Rather than create our *own, perhaps you could just zip together all of

upload same to our own webspace :)

Just like in baseball - two divisions. and PW has the designated coder.
SoS is the catcher, G is manager as she throws like a girl and everyone
else is out in field snagging great freeware.
For a while there, the count was full with the bases empty........

Since the Pricelessware site is staying any site you make with the
Pricelessware name will look like a cheap rip-off of Pricelessware.
Pricelessware is a well established and well known freeware site. People
will still go to the Pricelessware.org site before they even think about
going to a cheap copy.

That's right.

Susan can do whatever she wants.

Ahhhh, please, don't let us do things all over again!!

Telling each other 'who did it' and 'who didn't do it' is childish.
Please let us try to make the best out of this situation.

SOS, Genna and Garrett want to continue Pricelessware.org. Please give
them a chance. And the fact that Garrett has been away for a couple of
years doesn't have to be a bad thing. He's 'fresh' and motivated to do
the job.

Also give Susan a chance. She has done a great job on the PL, and maybe
she also can do a great job on her own site. An other Pricelessware
site doesn't have to be a bad thing.

The only thing I hope is that there will be no any unhealthy
competition between the two sites. Therefore I suggest that there will
be only one (1) vote for the yearly pricelessware. A solution for this
could be that Susan does the voting for this year, and Garrett (and
Genna and SOS) do this for next year. And so on. Of course, both sites
mention the *same* pricelessware-programs in the *same* categories, but
they are free in how they present that on their sites.

Please, don't let this issue about Pricelessware split this whole
group. It is and was a wonderful thing that this *whole* group voted
once a year for their favorite freeware. Don't let this go away!!!

Any comments?

With kind regards,

A domain name is simply a name - another name will be chosen for the new
Pricelessware List web site.

That's the crux of the matter. Pricelessware does not depend upon a
particular domain or website; it depends entirely upon the group's
opinion of what, in any 12-month period is the best freeware around.
As it stands at the moment, it's comprehensive and reliable and it is
the first port of call for many who do not subscribe to a.c.f as well
as those who do.

That it is as good as it is, is in no small part down to Susan Bugher.
The administration of the vote and the site is a mighty task. Not
only has she taken that in her stride, but she has improved upon what
she found. I did not support Susan against Genna - indeed I will
brook no criticism of Genna who equally selflessly did great things
here in times gone by and has in addition borne the cost of the site.
I supported Susan - and still enthusiastically do - because she was
the one maintaining the site. Genna was not offering to do so. The
site is nothing without a good administrator and we have been have
been remarkably lucky in having two such excellent administartors as
Genna, in her time, and now Susan.

There has been some suggestion, though not, I would hasten to add,
from posters for whom I have any respect, that Susan has been engaged
in some sort of power play. Shame on them. Every decision that has
been made with regard to the Pricelessware site has been a group
decision. Susan has been scrupulous in her application of democracy
to her role. I challenge her detractors to show an example to the
contrary.

I will not speak against Garrett. I remember Garrett well from times
gone by as an excellent poster to this group. He was courteous,
meticulous, knowledgeable and always helpful and I am delighted to see
that he is taking an interest again. What I can say, without fear of
contradiction, is that Susan has a proven track record, and an
excellent one, in conducting the Pricelessware vote and maintaining
the site. Garrett does not.

I suggest that we concentrate on finding an appropriate name and site
for Pricelessware.

You're right it doesn't HAVE to be. I am skeptical though.

I think it's already to late for that. IMO the group is already split.
How things go from here remains to be seen.

I'd be curious to know what in your mind you consider "this *whole* group"?
How many unique people voted? (subtract the sock puppets) How many people
do you *think* read this group? I think in reality you'll find that it
would be more fitting to say "a small number of readers" or a "small
percentage of readers" here.
