What about BigFix as a worthy candidate.

I've tried this and it came up with useful warnings, patch
notifications and tips for my system.

Well, sort of.
I've had it on my machine for a good while and only run it on demand as
it does use up resources if you leave it 'on' all the time.
In addition when you 'gather', you will see that the Bigfix site no
longer responds and any 'fixlets' only come from Fixlet Central, which is
ok, but suggests a limited lifespan.

What about holding off until it's time for nominations? :)

Hi Blinky,

I suggested posting with that heading. IMO it's a good way to flag a
post about a program that you regard as especially valuable - if you
intend to nominate it for next year's PL. Flagging the post gives people
a heads-up - and a chance to try the program before the nomination
process starts. In the future *Pricelessware Candidate* could be useful
when searching for threads about valuable new programs.
