Preview In Browser - ASP & PHP pages

E

Earl Partridge

I had to be away for a while.

OK, I ran the Allow Security To Be Tightened (FP2000), it did recreate a
file (_vti_inf.html) but I still get the html code when Preview in Browser.
I'm ready to let this one expire.

I did attempt recently to Convert a folder to Web and was unable to do
so because it being a disk based web.

How do I change or open FP as a Web Based web instead of a
Disk Based?

OK, instead of clicking the Open Folder Icon, I click File and my option
is to "Open Web" vs "Open Site". I click "Open Web", type in
http://localhost. I then load the file, Preview In Browser with the same
results
I've been getting... the html code.

I "Open Web", type in http://localhost/test.asp and get an error that it
is
not
accessible.

Preview in browser "Will" work for .asp files, but "Only" if you have
opened the site and page in FrontPage using the
http://localhost/webname
address.

You must have a web server installed on your pc. If you are using WinXP
Home, it does not have a web server. If WinXP Pro, you can install the IIS
web server from Add/Remove programs | Add/Remove Windows Components or from
the Win XP Pro CD.

Then, you must open your browser and open the server based web via http,
such as:

http://localhost/mywebname etc., depending on you you have it set up.

I have XP Pro, I have IIS installed. I can open with localhost. I was

converting a folder to a Web. The folder in question has been "published"
to the online server, but still can't convert it to a web.

OK, I ran the Allow Security To Be Tightened (FP2000), it did recreate a

I'm ready to let this one expire.

I did attempt recently to Convert a folder to Web and was unable to do
so because it being a disk based web.

How do I change or open FP as a Web Based web instead of a
Disk Based?

Earl

You may have corrupted the extensions by opening the web as a disc based web.
If you have FP2002 extensions installed, use
Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Microsoft SharePoint Administrator
Click Administration for your web site (Default web) then Go to administration page.
Run check server health, and check all the boxes.

If FP2000 extensions, use
Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Internet Information Services
Expand the folder tree in left column
Right click on web site (Default Web Site)
Choose All Tasks->Check Server extensions
Allow security to be tightened.

OK, instead of clicking the Open Folder Icon, I click File and my option
is to "Open Web" vs "Open Site". I click "Open Web", type in
http://localhost. I then load the file, Preview In Browser with the same
results
I've been getting... the html code.

I "Open Web", type in http://localhost/test.asp and get an error that it is
not
accessible.

Earl

When you open it like that you're opening it as a disk-based web. You
need to open it in FrontPage as File, Open Site, http:\\localhost This
will open it as a server-based web and now you should be able to test your
ASP pages.

I think I understand, but check me out... I open FrontPage.
In the File Name box I enter: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\test.asp
FrontPage opens and my test.asp page appears.
I click Preview In Browser.
The html code appears.
I refresh.
The screen is blank.
Earl

Preview in browser "Will" work for .asp files, but "Only" if you have
opened the site and page in FrontPage using the http://localhost/webname
address.

I guess I'm not stating the situation correctly. In FP I have several
Sub Webs created a while back. I want to create/convert this folder to
a web on my own local machine, which is running IIS, but I continue to
get that error that I can not create a disk based web because its parent
would not be a disk based web.

Hmmm, I think the next step would be a verbatim copy of the error message
and a "manual script" of exactly how you got there. I have a feeling we are
missing some crucial information.

R

Ronx

Open the web as a server based web - File->open Site and choose or type
in http://localhost
If necessary open the subweb containing the folder.
Run Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks
Then convert the folder.
Always open the site as server based.

OK, I opened FP (2000), File | Open Web.
"Look In" contains the path to my localhost.
"Folder Name" when I try to Open with "http://localhost
I get errors that can be viewed at:
http://www.pearnet.com/localhost.htm

I did the Recalculate Hyperlinks. But not being in as a server based web
the attempt to Convert that folder to a web still fails.

Close everything
Then try again with FrontPage.

I do have IIS installed on my machine, so when I do

IE
and go

| Guess I'm not understanding your question about being
in a
FP
site
| working under a local server....
|
| I am working strictly in FP. I open the file, the
Preview
In
Browser
when
| I get the blank page.
|
| I do have IIS installed on my machine, so when I do
open
IE
and go
| to http://localhost the page displays correctly.
