My manager is telling me that from time to time when he is typing in word all
of a sudden he will be taken to the run command or the internet explorer. It
is like he has activated some sort of macro or hyperlink to automatically
take him to these places. He cannot recreate it at will amd he has asked if I
know how to turn it off. I searched through the options and help but nothing
is jumping out at me. Does anyone know what this is and how to turn it OFF?

If this is Word 2003 and he happens to Alt+click, the Research pane opens
and tries to connect.

Thanks Suzanne, it is Word 2003.

I just recreated what you described but that does not appear to be what he
described to me. He said that it actully opens up the Internet Explorer or a
"Run" Window.

He did not mentiom the "Research" window.

Thanks,
Mike

Is he clicking on hyperlinks to Web pages? Or accessing online Help? Try to
find out more about what he is actually doing?

When I askeed him to recreate it for me he could not but according to him he
is NOT clicking on anything.

He states that he is just typing in Word and all of a sudden it takes off
and opens and Internet Window or Run Window.

He is assuming that he is fat fingering while he is typing and when he
enters some specific combination of letters by mistake that is when it
automatically swicthes to an Internet or Run Window.

Does the above help clear the muddy waters?

I have asked him to tell me the next time it happens so that we can try and
get a recreate.

Thanks,
Mike

FWIW, the Windows key on a Windows keyboard will open the Start menu, and
many of the items on the Start menu have accelerator keys when it is opened
that way (as opposed to when it is clicked with the mouse). So WinKey+R
would open the Run box. If Internet Explorer is on the Start menu (as
displayed), it's conceivable that that could also be triggered that way.
Alternatively, is there any shortcut key assigned to IE?
